Ok - so wow! What a month September has been! Between dealing with the first couple weeks of school and then some hurricane named Ike coming and tossing things around (literally and figuratively), it's been one hell of a month for all us, that's for sure!
Emalynn got her first "note" from her teacher the second week into school. Apparently she kept saying the word fart, and her teacher repeatedly told her not to use it. So, Emalynn thought it would be funny to BURP in her teacher's face! And from the looks of it, her teacher really didn't appreciate it, so she wrote us a note. She informed us of the situation and said that burping in her face was unacceptable. I couldn't believe the note when I read it...my jaw dropped to the floor! How could Emalynn be so rude and make a decision to burp in her teacher's face?? I don't care about saying the word fart, although, we are diligently trying to instill the fact that Emalynn needs to listen to her elders, but to go as far as to burp in someone's face like that??? What would possess her to do a thing like is beyond me...but then again, Jonathon is her father, lol! He continues to play with Emalynn in ways sometime, quite frankly, is just not right when it comes to others. For instance, farting her way, or smacking each other cause they wanna fight...I mean, it's ok for the interaction, but he needs to be mindful of the fact that the things he does with her shouldn't and can't be done to others. Needless to say, Jon and I talked to Emalynn...and have told her that she needs to listen to her teacher the FIRST time she asks Emalynn to do something! ugghhh!
Moving on...Hurricane Ike decided to make a visit to Houston the night of September 12th...even though it was forecasted to hit Brownsville earlier in the week, then moved to Corpus, then to Freeport (the day before)...then the day of decided would trek on over to Galveston and Houston. The reality of the storm really did not hit until AFTER it passed over us. We lost power for 10 days! That's enough to make anyone go crazy!
This is my first true hurricane experience as an adult. I was old enough to remember Alicia, but not for wind strength or damage, but for the water that creeped into the house overnight. I didn't really know what hurricanes were about at the age of 6. Probably about the same way that Emalynn felt during this time. She slept straight through it! Got up, saw her swing set had been knocked down and was sad. Innocent minds...God love them! :)
